Kashmir Portraits

The brief was to shoot a series of portraits which reflected both sides of the story during the civil unrest in Kashmir. However, it was vital not to influence viewers’ perceptions in any way, so each image had to be as similar as possible.

Using a neutral background and available light, I shot both stone pelters and members of the security forces, with both groups looking in opposite directions to reflect their opposing views on the situation in Kashmir.

For obvious reasons all chose to wear masks. Some wanted to be pictured with their weapons. A stone, a knife or an automatic rifle. Read my blog for the story behind the images.
