ABOUT

Cathal McNaughton is a Pulitzer Prize–winning Irish photographer and visual storyteller whose work is shaping how contemporary Ireland is seen and understood.

Over more than two decades, McNaughton has worked across editorial, documentary, portrait, and commercial fields, producing images distinguished by clarity, restraint, and emotional intelligence. His portrait practice is marked by an unforced intimacy; a process built on time, trust and careful observation.

Alongside international assignments, he is currently working on ISLAND, an ongoing contemporary portrait of the island of Ireland that moves beyond postcard imagery to capture everyday life as it is lived today.

His life and career are the subject of the documentary I Dream In Photos, a portrait of the experiences that have shaped both his work and his perspective.

McNaughton also speaks regularly on creativity, mental health, and the realities of working in high-pressure environments, offering candid insight into both the craft and the personal cost of sustained frontline work.
